FMI systems with FMPA approval
The glulam industry demands the highest accuracy when it comes to moisture content measurement. The first Brookhuis FMI system was approved in 2001 and up to now, the Brookhuis FMI systems are the only capacitive in-line moisture measuring systems which have been approved by the FMPA. As a result the Brookhuis FMI systems can be applied to determine the moisture content of wood in the glulam industry.
The FMPA approval relates to
-
The measuring system for longitudinal and transversal transport with density correction
-
The wood species spruce, pine and fir.
-
Cross-sections which are admissible for Dimension Lumber & Boards, Timber and Gluelam products
-
Wood moisture content between 6% and 20%
-
Density or strength range without limitations

The name of the institute changed over the years from FMPA, into MPA. Also many people know this institute as Otto Graph Institute or University of Stuttgart. For more information about this institute, click on the MPA logo.
The requirements of an MPA approved moisture meter is strictly regulated by the authorities of the German MPA Institute. Only moisture meter manufacturers with the know-how to develope instruments that reaches the demanded accuracy and reproducibility will be able to get an MPA approval. The Brookhuis in-line moisture meters have been tested under industrial circumstances. Over 1,000 boards where tested and over 5,000 oven-dry samples have been analyzed. The moisture content of the boards varied from 6% to 20% and individual boards had variations in moisture content over the board length and over the cross sections. The Brookhuis FMI systems where approved and the achieved accuracy showed a standard deviation of 0.5%.

Approvals from the Otto-Graph-institute (FMPA) of the University of Stuttgart for glulam and beams. The approvals show the accuracy of an MPA approved FMI system on spruce.
