„MCM Stackprobe” is a system for precise continuous MC measurements of boards in drying kilns in the stack.
The electrodes can be inserted easily in boards within the stacks from outside. Each electrode consist of a bar, a knife welded perpendicular to one of its ends and a protection cap that avoids that the knife is exposed to the circulated air, thus avoiding that heat dries out the measuring zone. Each electrode is introduced into a space between the boards and then is pressed into the wood turning the bar from outside. The electrodes are built of stainless steel and connected to the existing wiring.

The MCM Stackprobe is a patented product. The advantages of this new product are:
-
All measurements are more precise than those taken with conventional electrodes because heat flow to the measurement zone is largely reduced by the protection cap.
-
It is possible to run complete cycles without entering the kilns with most products. User consider that this reduces drying cycles by 2 to 3 hours.
-
As the fiber saturation point can be determined precisely, drying cycles can be accelerated in the final stage without risking checks, winning further drying time. In accelerated drying kilns up to 10% drying time can be saved.
-
Electrodes can be inserted into boards located inside the stacks and also taken away form the side walks in the kiln after finishing the drying process. This is a greater advantage when automatic stackers are used.
-
Uniformity of drying is improved and over drying is largely avoided. This is major advantage because warp, checks and several remanufacturing problems will be reduced and it is physically very difficult to re-moisture over dried timber. Consequently also darkening of wood during drying is reduced.
-
Less operation personnel will be needed because moisture content control is largely reduced or avoided. Also colds and other illnesses operators may catch for entering continuously into very hot kilns will be reduced.
-
It is easy to replace the new electrodes in kilns which already have resistive measurement systems and calibrate them with existing data.
The new measurement system is now successfully introduced as drying process improvement throughout the world!
