The Timber Grader MTG recovers its cost quickly because wood can be categorised in a higher strength class.
The Timber Grader MTG is inexpensive.
Tracing the graded pieces of wood is easy and error-free using the recorded measurement data.
This makes the Timber Grader MTG an important link in your total quality process.
Important for monitoring your internal quality checks and certification requirements!
Comparison
| Methode | Recovery time | Costs |
| Visual | Short by restricting the grading classes | Incidentally high due to assessment errors |
| Mechanical | Depends largely on type of wood and number of m3. long recovery period! Enormous investment costs | Costs of maintenance and repairs. Incidentally high costs |
| Timber Grader MTG | Independent of wood type and number of m3! Recovery period very short! Low purchase price | Maintenance and repairs virtually non-existent! |
The various methods
The Timber Grader MTG strength grading
- suitable for softwood
- suitable for hardwood
- low purchase price
- extremely user-friendly
- strength class read-out
- can be used anywhere
- programmable
Visual strength grading
Wood is graded in strength classes using visual properties such as knots and the run of the grain. Qualified graders know exactly what visible properties in nature, regularity and size can occur in each strength class.
Drawbacks: inaccurate, so that higher strength classes cannot be allocated. The visual properties in hardwood are not distinctive enough.
Mechanical strength grading
Wood is graded for strength by machines on the basis of the known relationship between the bending strength and the flexural modulus of a piece of wood, which is categorised in a strength class on the basis of the amount of bend and the force required.
Drawbacks: enormous initial investment (production line costs between EUR 100 000 and EUR 700 000.) It is only suitable for types of softwood and only profitable when grading large quantities of small pieces of wood.
